How to Hang Double Roller Blinds
Installing your beautiful new double roller blinds is exciting. But how exactly should you hang them to ensure proper functionality? Mounting double roller blinds level and securely is important for smooth operation and an attractive interior design statement.
Follow our comprehensive guide to mastering the process of hanging double roller blinds.
Choose Suitable Mounting Locations
The first key step is deciding where to mount the blinds. Two options exist:
Inside Window Frame
Quick & Easy
Limits Light Gap
On Ceiling
Highlights Windows
Requires More Hardware
Most often, inside the window frame just above the glass provides the easiest installation with a straight, flush fit. It also prevents light leakage gaps above the shades.
Ceiling mounting emphasizes the window area better for a nice aesthetic. But this adds complexity with additional ceiling brackets, wires, etc.
Check Mounting Surface Structural Integrity
The mounting area must be structurally solid to support the hardware and shade weight over time without pulling loose or sagging. Wall studs or ceiling joists are ideal. Hollow drywall alone won't cut it.
Use a stud finder to detect solid points. For ceiling mounting, anchors into joists are essential. Reinforce hollow areas with extra fixtures if needed before proceeding.
Gather the Right Mounting Hardware
Every double roller blind includes mounting brackets and screws. But supplemental hardware may be required depending on the mounting surface structure. Have the following items on hand:
Stud finder
Level
Screwdriver
Extra screws & anchors
Use screws long enough to secure at least 1" deep into studs or joists. For hollow drywall, use special hollow wall anchors rated for the shade's weight.
Mark Holes Accurately Before Drilling
Using the included mounting brackets as a template, carefully mark where screws will go. Evenly space three brackets across the width of the window. Make sure there is sufficient clearance for operating chains/wires.
Double check all measurements before drilling to ensure proper alignment. Uneven mounting means shades won't roll up straight. Take your time here for best results.
Allow a Small Gap Behind Mounting Brackets
When securing brackets, don't tighten screws flush to the wall/ceiling. Leave about 1/8" gap. This gives space to insert the blind headrail and facilitates easy removal later if needed.
Tip: Angle screws slightly upward for maximum grip.
Insert Any Power Packs Before Mounting
If installing motorized double roller blinds, pay attention to power pack placement. There is usually a specific pocket or clip in the headrail to insert the battery-operated motor pack before mounting the unit as a whole.
Test Shade Operation Once Hung
The final step after hanging double roller blinds is testing operation of both sheer and opaque shade layers. Make sure they roll up and down smoothly, stay in position as set, and align properly side-to-side. Enjoy your new window treatment!
