How to Remove Zebra Blinds from a Window

If you're ready to take down your zebra blinds for cleaning, replacement, or to simply get rid of them, removing them is a straightforward process. With the right techniques and safeguards, you can detach those striking window coverings quickly and hassle-free. Here are some step-by-step tips for properly removing zebra blinds.

Fully Raise the Blinds

Start by using the lift cords on either side of the blind to raise it as high as possible. This will allow easier access to the entire blind mechanism and hardware. It also prevents accidentally bending or damaging the horizontal slats as you work to detach the blinds. Raising them fully gets the blinds safely out of your way.

Release the Bracket Gates

Locate the metal bracket hardware that is secured to the upper corners of the window frame. These brackets contain a hinged gate that allows the blinds to slide in place. Simply swing these bracket gates open to release the blind housing.

Be sure to support the blinds with your other hand to prevent sudden dropping as the brackets are detached. Carefully slide the top slat out of the brackets once the gates are opened.

Unscrew the Brackets

With the blinds fully released from the window brackets, use a screwdriver to remove the brackets themselves, if desired. Loosen each screw and set brackets and screws aside for future reuse or disposal. This leaves you with a clean window frame for installing new coverings or leaving uncovered.

Detach Any Valance Clips

For zebra blinds installed with a decorative valance, use a screwdriver to detach any visible valance clips from the window frame. Valances simply hook into these small clips, so they should lift off easily once unscrewed. Removing all hardware leaves the window clear and ready for fresh window treatment.

Inspect and Clean the Blinds

With the old zebra blinds fully removed, now is the perfect time to thoroughly clean them before storing or reinstalling in their new home. Wipe down each slat, vacuum dust, and spot treat any stains. Proper cleaning restores beauty and function.

Removing zebra blinds is simple with the right precautions. Soon you'll be ready to install new window coverings or appreciate an unobstructed view! Just be sure to handle existing blinds gently to keep those stripes intact.
