How to Remove Zebra Blinds
If your zebra blinds are looking worn or you're simply ready for an updated window treatment, removing them is a straightforward process. With the right tools and techniques for your specific mounting style, you can safely take down zebra blinds without damaging them or your windows.
Remove Inside Mount Zebra Blinds
If your vividly striped blinds are mounted inside the window frame:
Fully lower the zebra blind. This gives you access to the entire headrail and mounting brackets.
Locate the release tab or lever on each mounting bracket. This allows the bracket to open for headrail removal.
Press the release on one side while gently pulling that end of the headrail towards you. Be careful not to bend or twist the headrail.
Repeat on the other side until the headrail is completely detached from both brackets.
Unscrew and remove brackets if not reusing for new window treatment. Patch anchor holes if necessary.
Take Down Outside Mount Blinds
For zebra blinds mounted on the wall or ceiling surrounding your window:
Start by fully lowering the blind. This allows access to the headrail and hardware.
Using a screwdriver, remove the screws anchoring each mounting bracket. Carefully slide brackets off the screws as you remove them.
Gently tilt the headrail out of the brackets once all screws are out. Pivot it forward and down to completely detach.
Patch any wall holes if permanently removing the blind hardware.
Clean and Store Zebra Blinds Properly
Once removed from the window:
Wipe down headrail and slats with a soft cloth. Use mild soap and water to clean if needed.
Roll up the blind evenly and store somewhere clean and dry like a closet shelf or storage bin.
With the right release technique and safe handling, it's simple to take down zebra blinds without any trouble. Soon you'll have a fresh window ready for your next great decorative update!
