How to Remove Double Roller Blinds
Do your double roller blinds need a good cleaning or replacing after years of use? Removing them for maintenance or to install fresh shades is straightforward. Follow our step-by-step guide to smoothly taking down double roller blinds.
Fully Raise Roller Shades
Start by using the operating cords to raise both sheer and opaque shade layers completely into the headrail housing. This gives needed access to the components within.
If shades won't raise fully, gently pull down on the bottom hems while lifting cords upward simultaneously. This may help release or re-engage the roller mechanisms.
Release Any Tension Devices
Gently pull toward you on the tension handles located on the bottom corners of shades until resistance releases. This disables the spring roller tension so shades roll up easily without fighting you.
Caution: Hold onto shades firmly when releasing tension or they may rapidly roll up uncontrollably inside housing.
Unclip Chain Retainers
If the double roller blind unit came with safety chains on the ends, carefully unclip chain retainers attaching chains to brackets or ceiling. Freeing chains enables removing the entire assembly.
Remove Mounting Screws
Using a screwdriver or drill, remove the mounting screws from each bracket one by one until the housing unit detaches completely from the wall or window frame.
If screws won't budge, spray with penetrating lubricant like WD-40 and let sit 5 minutes before trying again. This prevents screw head stripping.
Take Down Power Pack (If Motorized)
For motorized shades, first disconnect and remove any battery power packs inside headrail before fully taking the unit down. Handle control boards gently.
Detach any connecting wires between power packs and switch controls as well. Label wires using tape for easy reconnecting later.
Lift Roller Shade Unit Off Brackets
With all brackets detached and tension released, carefully lift the entire double roller blind assembly off the mounting brackets. Keep upright to avoid shifting internal components.
Congratulations! You have successfully dismounted double roller shades for cleaning, replacement, or paint work. Reverse these steps accurately when ready to rehang shades.
