How to Install PVC Blinds

Installing new PVC blinds is an easy DIY project for any home. PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, makes for durable, moisture-resistant blinds that are suitable for any room. With some basic tools and these step-by-step instructions, you'll have stylish new PVC blinds hung in no time.

Gather Materials

You'll need:

PVC blinds

Metal blind brackets

Screwdriver

Tape measure

Pencil

Level

Power drill with drill bits

Fasteners (screws or anchors based on your wall type)

Check the mounting brackets before getting started. Inside or ceiling mounts offer a cleaner look. Outside mounts work well for covering an entire window frame.

Measure Windows

First, precisely measure each window opening. Note the width at the top, middle and bottom since openings are rarely perfectly square. Measure the height on the left, center and right too.

Use the longest measurements for width and height to cut the blinds. This ensures proper coverage.

Also measure any obstructions like handles or molding to account for when marking bracket locations.

Cut the Blinds

Carefully measure and mark the cuts needed on the blinds with pencil. For width, make sure you are cutting across the slats, not between them.

Use sharp scissors or tin snips to cut through the PVC. Avoid bending or twisting the blades to get clean cuts.

If desired, tape over cuts to prevent fraying edges.

Install Brackets

First, position the fully assembled brackets where you want the blinds centered using a level and pencil marks for guidance. Ensure alignment and proper spacing between brackets.

Predrill bracket holes with a power drill if needed based on the mounting surface. Tap in anchors for drywall or other fragile walls.

Then securely screw all brackets into place. Do not overtighten.

Hang the Blinds

Simply set the blind into the opened brackets, resting the edges on the lips. Close the brackets to clamp down on the vinyl slats and hold in place.

Check that the blinds can move up and down smoothly without binding. Adjust brackets slightly if needed until operation is free.

Attach any safety devices per manufacturer instructions as well to prevent any cord hazards.

Enjoy the Blinds!

With that, installation is complete and you can now use the full functionality of your new PVC blinds! Adjust slats and raise or lower them to control privacy, lighting and airflow.

Properly installed PVC blinds should provide years of hassle-free use. Just give them an occasional dusting or wipe down with a damp cloth to keep them looking fresh and clean.
