How to Install Double Roller Blinds
Double roller blinds can transform any room with their stylish design and adjustable light control. But how exactly are these innovative shades installed? Follow our comprehensive guide for expert tips on smoothly installing your new double roller blinds.
Step 1: Check the Mounting Surface
Proper installation begins with inspecting the mounting location, whether above the window frame or on the ceiling. The surface should be:
Solid - A hollow drywall ceiling won't adequately support the hardware.
Flat - Any uneven spots could prevent proper shade functionality.
Level - Angled mounting will skew blinds operation.
Use basic tools like a stud finder and level to address any issues. Some additional brackets or framing may be needed in problematic areas before mounting.
Step 2: Mark the Bracket Locations
Use the included installation brackets as a template for marking holes accurately. Most double roller blinds include at least three brackets that space evenly along the full width. Center the headrail over the window then trace bracket outlines lightly in pencil.
Check all markings double before drilling permanent holes. Correct spacing is crucial for smooth functionality. Adjust the end brackets if needed so cords/chains have enough clearance from the window frame.
Step 3: Install the Mounting Brackets
Attach brackets securely into wall studs or ceiling joists at the marked locations. Use suitable screws and anchors for the surface material. Angled screws pointing slightly upward provide maximum holding strength. Do not rely solely on hollow-wall anchors in ceiling drywall. The weight demands solid fastening.
Leave an 1/8" gap behind each bracket to slide the blind headrail into place after. Secure chains to limit sway are also often included if attaching to a ceiling.
Step 4: Insert the Power Pack
If your double roller blinds are motorized, insert the slim battery-operated power pack into the headrail before mounting it. Often there is a specific pocket or clip designated to hold the pack securely inside.
Take care not to damage any small circuit boards or wire connections during this step. A functioning power pack ensures automated operation.
Step 5: Mount the Blind Headrail
With all brackets firmly installed and power pack inserted, mount the double roller blind headrail. Simply angle it upwards slightly and slide back into place between the bracket lips until it clicks. The gap left earlier facilitates easy insertion.
Give a gentle downward tug on the center of the headrail to ensure both ends have positively engaged in the bracket hooks before letting go. The locking mechanism should hold things steadily with no slipping or sagging.
Step 6: Adjust and Test Operation
With mounting fully complete, take a moment to test functionality of both shade layers. Give the control cords a few gentle pulls to raise and lower each layer independently. Everything should roll smoothly and evenly on their tracks.
Finish by making any limit adjustments or motorized programming needed. Now just relax and enjoy your brand new double roller blinds!
