How to Fix Zebra Blinds
One of the appeals of zebra blinds is the eye-catching striped pattern created by alternating slats. But after years of use, problems can develop with lift cords, hardware, or slats. Don't despair! Many zebra blind issues can be addressed with simple at-home fixes.
Repair Stuck or Frayed Cords
Over time, frequently used lift cords on the sides of zebra blinds can become stuck or frayed. Carefully apply lubricant like wax or dry silicone to free stuck cords. Fraying can be mended by sealing ends with clear nail polish or a lighter.
For broken cords, detach the cord remnants and replace with beaded chain or monofilament line of the same gauge. Securely knot new segments in place.
Replace Faulty Ladder Cords
Another important yet delicate cord component are the horizontal ladder cords connecting slats. If any become detached or damaged, new lengths of beaded chain can be threaded through each slat channel and tied off securely.
Use needle nose pliers to grasp and thread replacement segments. Knot tightly on both ends to restore stability.
Super Glue Broken Slats
If vinyl, wood, or aluminum horizontal slats crack or break over years of handling, they can often be repaired with cyanoacrylate super glue formulated for their material type.
Use quick clamps to hold the broken slat ends completely aligned as glue dries for clean mending. Lightly sand rough edges. The stripes live on!
With a little time and the right materials and techniques, many common zebra blind issues don't require complete replacement. Try effective at-home fixes first to revive your special window coverings.
