How to Clean Zebra Blinds
With their distinctive striped pattern that filters light beautifully, zebra blinds can be a gorgeous addition to any room. But like any window covering, they'll need the occasional cleaning to keep them looking fresh and working properly. Don't worry - cleaning zebra blinds is a simple process when you follow these handy tips.
Vacuum Both Sides of the Blinds
Start by using the soft brush attachment on your vacuum to clean both the front and back of the blinds. This will remove any loose dust, dirt, and debris that has accumulated on the horizontal slats. Vacuuming prevents buildup that can hinder the operation of the lifting cords and wand controls. Make sure to vacuum in between each individual slat - going up and down a few times - to thoroughly clean the entire surface area.
Wipe Down Each Slat
Next, use a microfiber cloth, soft rag, or paper towel dampened with warm water to individually wipe down each vinyl, wood, or aluminum slat. This removes any remaining dust or debris, and also tackles any dirt and grime that may have formed.
Take care not to bend or warp the slats as you clean. Gently wipe in a linear motion along the length of each slat. For stuck-on dirt or stains, create a solution of mild dish soap diluted in warm water. Lightly dampen your cloth with the solution and gently scrub to lift the mess away.
Spot Clean Ladder Cords and Lifting Cords
Check the ladder cords and lifting cords for any buildup of dust or debris. Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe each section of rope clean. For visible stains or dirt, lightly dampen your cloth with the same warm, soapy solution used on the slats. Gently blot the stain until removed. Allow all cords to completely air dry before operating the blinds.
Consider Occasional Deep Cleaning
Every few months, give your zebra blinds a more thorough deep clean. This keeps them looking like new for longer. Carefully detach the blinds from the window and lay them flat outside or in the tub. Use warm, soapy water and a soft brush to gently scrub the front and back of each slat as well as all cords.
Rinse clean and allow to fully dry before reattaching. This periodic deep clean tackles embedded dirt and brightens up the striped pattern.
With the proper care, your zebra blinds will maintain their good looks while continuing to function flawlessly. Frequent dusting and wiping keeps dirt at bay in between occasional deep cleaning sessions. Show those stylish stripes some TLC so you can enjoy their singular beauty for years to come!
